Pocketpc GPS Logging Solution Found!

One great toy I got during the holidays is a bluetooth GPS receiver from Holux for my Pocketpc XV6700 Verizon phone. It came with ALK’s CoPilot for in car navigation, but I also wanted a solution that would allow me to log the GPS data to a file so that I could convert it to Google Earth’s KML format to see it in Google Earth. This will come in very handy when it is spring time again and Dominic and I will go for long bike rides and then we can see what path we took, how far we travelled and how fast we were going.

I searched quite a bit for something that simply worked and also spent sometime writing a small program myself that sort of worked, but not reliably, until I found exactly what I was looking for!

VisualGPSce is a simple program that will log all GPS NMEA output to a file and will display a bunch of useful stats real time like speed, compass direction, satelite info.  Then you can use the incredibly useful online tool gpsvisualizer to generate the KML file. Great stuff!
